Map :
Climate change effects :
- Temperature rise by 0.5 °C in 20 years and by 0.1 °C per year during the coming years ;
- In some places, rainfall reduction by 2025 and 2050, as well as more humid seasons ;
- Evolution of cyclones’ trajectory ;
- Sea level rise OF 7 to 8 mm per year on average ;
Disaster costs :
In 2016, the World Bank points out that Madagascar is subjected to 100 million dollars total direct loss on average, because of floods and tropical cyclones. The latter are the most important risks, at the root of 85% direct annual loss on average.
Risk profiles :
Cyclones
Floods
Earthquakes
GHGs emissions
48.5 MtCO2e (metric tons of CO2 equivalent ) in 2012
GHGs goals :
- Reduction: By 2030, Madagascar aims at reducing its GHGs emissions by about 30 MtCO2, which represents 14% of national emissions according to the BAU (Business As Usual) scenario, with projections based on GHGs inventory from 2000 to 2010 ;
- Absorption: this reduction adds to the increase of absorptions in the Land use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF) sector, estimated at 61 MtCO2 in 2030. An increase by 32% of GHGs absorption is expected accordingly to the BAU scenario.
